Trowbridge Town Hall Trust is thrilled to be welcoming new Director Alan Wright to the team. Alan joins at a transformational time for the organisation as we head towards the £8.1m Future High Street funded capital development.
Having spent thirty-five years as a successful film and television producer, both in the UK and the US, Alan first became involved in community regeneration during his appointment as Professor of Film Studies at Syracuse University in New York State, persuading a regional television station to relocate into a derelict factory site in the struggling city centre. Offering facilities and opportunities to marginalised young people, the initiative transformed a down town neighbourhood, encouraged new enterprise, and impacted positively on crime figures.
Returning to Bath in 2010, Alan became part of the executive team at Bristol Old Vic charged with the restoration of the UK’s oldest, continuously running theatre, raising over £9.5million towards the capital project. In 2015, he was appointed Executive Director of The Point in Eastleigh, a former Town Hall that had been converted into a building providing outstanding facilities as a leading incubator of contemporary dance. He guided The Point through its first cycle as a National Portfolio Organisation of Arts Council England. His remit in Eastleigh also extended to The Sorting Office, a space supporting a dozen artists, designers, and craft workers.
Prior to joining the Town Hall Trust, on behalf of the Ministry of Justice, Alan created unique content for the digital hub now being installed across the entire HMPPS estate in England and Wales, providing residents with a platform to help confront the key issues in their lives, such as mental health, addiction, family engagement and education.
