Master Cheng  is a comedy drama in which, following his wife’s death, a Chinese master chef (Chu Pak Hong) travels to a remote village in Lapland, Finland with his young son (Lucas Hsuan) to meet a man he once met in Shanghai. Upon arrival, nobody in the village seems to know his friend, but local café owner Sirkka (Anna-Maija Tuokko) offers him accommodation and in return Cheng helps her in the kitchen surprising the locals with the delights of Chinese cuisine.

The film is a Finnish-Chinese co-production, directed by Mika Kaurismäki (The Girl King, Road North, Mama Africa, L.A. Without a Map).

Master Cheng is, in its own way, a film about globalization—with a positive spirit and at the grassroots level. It’s ultimately about the meeting of ordinary people coming from two very different cultures, and how it changes their worlds in the end” as says Kaurismäki in interview to The Finnish Lapland Film Commission’s.

“ An unexpected meeting of two cultures – Chinese and Finnish – in a remote Finnish village is the setting for the delightful and heart-warming romantic drama…”  –  The Movie Isle
